Most of Portsmouth sits on Portsea Island, so homes are packed closely together and many are a short walk from the sea. Long rows of Victorian terraces run through Southsea and Fratton, and many of them are now split into flats. North of the creek, Cosham has more interwar and post-war semis.
That mix shapes the job. In a terrace converted into flats, the boiler often sits in a kitchen cupboard with little space around it, and the flue has to leave through a wall close to a neighbour's window or a shared passage. We look at the flue route and the condensate pipe when we survey, so the new boiler meets the clearance rules and there are no surprises on fitting day.

Boiler installation: we replace old combi, system and regular boilers, and size the new one to your home and how much hot water you use. In a flat, that often means a compact combi that fits the cupboard you already have.
Boiler repairs: if your boiler is losing pressure, showing a fault code or has stopped heating, we find the cause and tell you whether a repair is worth doing before we go ahead.
Boiler servicing: a yearly service keeps your boiler running safely and is usually needed to keep the manufacturer's warranty valid. If you let a property, we can deal with your tenant directly to arrange access.
Heating services: cold radiators, noisy pipes and rooms that never warm up, along with new radiators and heating controls.
Bathroom installation: complete bathrooms and shower rooms, from stripping out the old suite to the final fit. We bring in our own tiler, electrician and plasterer when the job needs them, so you have one team to deal with.

Common Challenges
Common Problems in Portsmouth
The city's water is hard. Limescale builds up inside combi boilers and shows up as a kettling noise, or hot water that runs hot then cold. A scale reducer on the mains feed helps protect a new boiler, and we can fit a water softener if you'd like one.
Salt air near the seafront wears on anything metal outside, so we check flue terminals and outside pipework at each service. Condensate pipes on outside walls can freeze in a cold snap, so we route and insulate them to cut that risk.
Parts of Old Portsmouth and Southsea are conservation areas, where a flue on a wall facing the street may need more thought. We'll tell you at the survey if anything needs checking with the council before work starts.
